QGIS Plugin: QuickOSM

This is a very brief note on what seems like a very handly little plugin for QGIS. The QuickOSM plugin allow you to query OSM features and then extract (and save) these for separate use. In the Youtube video below the author uses the plugin to extract building footprints.

In order to use (briefly):

  1. open OSM and zoom to an area of interest
  2. install the QuickORM plugin in QGIS
  3. this will give a new menu with a magnifying glass (open)
  4. select quick query
  5. choose the features from the dropdown - suggest buildings
  6. select the extent to be of the canvas
  7. in Advanced choose the relevant geometry. In this instance leave node, way and relation checked
  8. run the query. Hey Presto!
The features should appear as a layer. This can then be exported or manipulated as desired.
